The anhinga (/ænˈhɪŋɡə/; Anhinga anhinga), sometimes called snakebird, darter, American darter, or water turkey, is a water bird of the warmer parts of the Americas. The word anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language and means devil bird or snake bird. When swimming the origin of the name snakebird is apparent: only the colored neck appears above water so the bird looks like a snake ready to strike (Wikipedia).
I practiced ophthalmology in Lafayette, Louisiana, from June 1973 until June 2017. My interest in photography started when I took a world tour after graduating from Notre Dame. My Brownie Hawkeye could not record much. As my practice matured and new partners became busy, I found time to explore digital photography. The photo courses at Gumbo U. at the University of Louisiana gave me a good understanding of the art and technical details. Thanks to Richard Wallis, Danny Izzo, Joe Pons, Philip Gould, John, and Barbara Gerlach.
